The Revolution of Rest: A 7-Week Journey to Resist the Hustle and Reclaim the Sacred Stillness of Rest

WRITTEN BY HANNAH ROWEN FRY

This summer, we invite you to join us on a journey—a journey to resist the hustle and reclaim the sacred stillness of rest. So take a moment to pause. To inhale deeply. To savor the simple pleasures like your morning cup of coffee or an afternoon walk in the park. To leave your next meeting on time and exhale with a peaceful sigh, freeing yourself from the chaotic demands of a busy world.

It's time to trade the frantic "AHHHH!" of hurry for the soothing "Ahhhh" of rest.

Join us throughout July and August as we break down the lies of hustle culture and give you permission to embrace your God-given limits, resting in him and in his purpose for you. Before we dive in, let’s chat a bit about what rest is and is not.

  1. Rest is Not a Burden, it’s a Benefit.

First, the Revolution of Rest is not another project. It’s not another task to add to your already busy schedule, another email to read, or another spiritual discipline to feel guilty about. It’s not about adding more to your day, it’s about adding value to it. Because rest is not a burden, it’s a benefit.

2. Rest is Not Wasteful, it’s Worthwhile.

Second, the Revolution of Rest is not a waste of time! For too long, our culture has convinced us that rest is  synonymous with laziness and procrastination. Instead, let’s return to Jesus’ example of rest, who withdrew from the crowds and entered the wilderness almost as often as he worked. Jesus actively sought regular rest… and he was far from lazy! Rest is not the enemy. On the contrary, it’s essential to personal growth, spiritual depth, and ministry effectiveness. Because rest is not wasteful, it’s worthwhile.

3. Rest is not Conventional, it’s Counter-Cultural.

Third, the Revolution of Rest is just that—a revolution! We are intentionally challenging and dismantling the common notions of rest as our society sees it. We are trading lies we’ve  been fed our whole lives for the truth that leads to holiness and fulfillment. This may cause some discomfort. Be prepared for this resistance and embrace it as a reminder that you’re on the right track. Because rest is not conventional, it’s counter-cultural.

Will You Journey With Us?

There is just one more thing we ask before we embark on this journey: leave the judgment at home. Pack your bags full of curiosity, and take a break from self-criticism. It doesn’t fit you anymore! Be ready for some challenging ideas, convicting conversations, uplifting reminders, and encouraging truths, but resist the temptation to journey into shame.

In the coming weeks, we will be exploring seven pillars of rest:

  • Rest is Holy

  • Rest as Resistance

  • Rest as Healing

  • Rest as Freedom

  • Rest as Strength

  • Rest as Purpose

  • Rest as a Spiritual Rhythm

Each week, we’ll share relevant blog posts, practical social media content, thoughtful reflection questions, meaningful prayer guides, Sabbath invitations, and ideas to incorporate rest as a rhythm in your own life.

Will you join us in this quiet revolution and begin to dip your toes into the peaceful waters of rest?
